Dornoch Heritage Trail

The Dornoch Heritage Trail was developed by the local Historylinks museum. An educational tour through the village of Dornoch, discover our fascinating history and learn how the village developed to where it is today.

Pick up your map outside the museum and set off on a journey through time. Wander through the graveyard and see if you can spot any familiar names, contemplate your fate in the old jail cell and learn about the old local practices of witchcraft.

Coastal Route to Embo

A long but mostly gentle walk along the golden coastline of Dornoch beach towards Embo beach. Embrace the long journey and take in the scenic coastal views where you may even spot the odd dolphin or two.

Ledmore and Migdale

A beautifully secluded inland walk with several trails to suit all abilities. Well-constructed woodland paths steer you through the thriving forest where lots of local wildlife, including deer and red squirrels, can be spotted. Follow the trail that takes you by the loch or hike to the top for views over the nearby town of Spinningdale.

Ben Bhraggie

Ben Bhraggie dominates the skyline of the nearby village, Golspie and can be conquered in 3.5 – 4 hours. The journey is steep, but the views are worth it. On a clear day both the east and west coast of Scotland can be seen on the horizon whilst the rolling inland hills jolt above the flat land below.

John O’Groats Trail

Much like the NC500, The John O’Groats Trail is the wild Scottish adventure of a lifetime. Encompassing no less than 147 miles on foot, the journey is not an easy one, but if embraced, it will reward you with breathtaking views of untouched land across the northern east coast.

Stop in Dornoch and take a moment to breathe in the fresh sea air, maybe play a round or two of golf and rest  in one of our contemporary guest rooms.
